PhD Candidate in History
Tulane University

Hello! I am a sixth-year PhD Candidate in History at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I study contraband trade in eastern Cuba in the 17th century, with a focus on ideas of subjecthood and belonging in the early modern Spanish empire. I seek to understand the complex relationship between individuals and various institutions ranging from town councils, regional courts, and the Council of the Indies, in their efforts to stop the proliferation of contraband trade.

In 2024-2025, I was a Lapidus–OI Slavery and Print Culture Fellow at the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture. I am currently a short-term fellow at the John Carter Brown Library and a recipient of the Paul and Elizabeth Selley Doctoral Fellowship. My research has also been supported by Tulane’s Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies, the University of Florida’s Latin America & Caribbean Collection, and the Folger and Newberry libraries.

In 2020, I received a BA in History and Spanish from the University of Central Florida, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the Burnett Honors College.
